Research Interests

Dr. Chrystie’s interests encompass gas-phase kinetics, advanced optical sensors, and combustion phenomena.

With experience in developing novel optically-based sensors for probing challenging combustion environments, he has now placed emphasis on the application of such sensors to study gas-phase kinetics with respect to combustion chemistry.
Advanced optical sensors are chiefly laser-based, and are excellent tools for probing the rapid, multifaceted chemical processes that occur during combustion. In this light, he is applying such tools to both improve the fidelity of existing experimental datasets and their range of applicability. This effort assists to validate computational chemistry models.
Such models, in addition to fluid mechanical, heat & mass transfer considerations, are useful in developing insight into, and quantitatively predicting, combustion behaviour. Other than chemistry, he also has interest and experience in applying laser diagnostics to study flame-vortex interaction to better understand combustion instability
