The motivation behind this project is to find a sustainable way to produce hydrogen while addressing environmental issues caused by H₂S, which is a byproduct in oil and gas processing. This process not only provides a cleaner method of hydrogen production but also reduces the environmental impact of harmful H₂S emissions.
H2S conversion at =220 nm irradiation as a function of time for different concentrations (b) Time-lapse images showing sulfur formation on the optical windows over 25 minutes.
Hydrogen sulfide is decomposed using UV light in a photochemical reactor. This approach utilizes the energy from UV radiation to break down H₂S, thereby producing hydrogen gas, which can be utilized as a clean energy source.
Impacts:
Provides a new approach for sustainable hydrogen production and H₂S management, which is particularly useful for oil and gas industries in reducing their environmental footprint.
